Can a Dad Be a Superhero?

I think every father has the chance to be the greatest hero in his kid’s life.

No powers needed. You just have to show up and give a shit.

I look back at how little interest my father had in our lives, and I can’t imagine being that cold with my son. He’s my whole heart. I’m already excited to show him things that will make his world a little bigger. Games, comics, how to build something, how to handle the hard stuff. Whatever he gets curious about, I want to be there for it.

A father should be a lot of things. Someone who listens. Someone who teaches. Someone who protects his kid, but also gives him room to try, fail, and figure things out. Someone his kid can count on even after a bad day.

The part that matters most

So yeah... much like my favorite superheroes, I won’t always get it right. But you better believe I’m going to be his superhero.
